With this type of chair, which is very collectable, people who want them like the original patina and including the scratches and dings. Since the chairs are a pair, it brings the value up. A very good upholstery job, for the seats would be about $200 each and as a pair they will go for about $1000 for the pair or higher. To do the upholstery, you will have to prepare the wood before the upholstery job and that would be a mild non abrasive cleaning and I suggest some scratch coat. Test your cleaning methods and the scratch coat on a non-visible area.
