AN OPEN PLEA FOR ASSISTANCE
My name is Douglas Welsch and I am 75 years old. I lost my left leg last year due to an infection and I live alone with my two dogs. They have been with me for over 9 years. I am currently living in a house owned by a friend. But I need to find somewhere else to live because my friend needs to do work on this house so he can sell it. I have tried for months to find somewhere with ground floor access, which would take me and my two dogs, but I have not had any luck. Another problem is my finances because I only get twelve hundred dollars a month. Social Security sets your benefits based on the last 5 years worked, but during that time I had lung cancer, a serious surgery to remove it, and months of chemotherapy and radiation which, unfortunately, reduced my benefits. I am alive, but broke. I have applied to HUD for emergency rental assistance, but nothing is forthcoming, I decided I would try to come to people’s attention this way. I know there may be people who may have a building or mother-in-law apartment that could be used to house an old man and his two little dogs. I am quiet and respectful, and my dogs are trained to a pad. If anyone would like to contact me, please call or text me at show contact info
. I have references and would be glad to answer any questions.
